There is no more perfect way to be introduced to the many faces of the Big Bend than this lovely overnight trip. A day of riding through our desert mountains, a night spent camping under our dark skies looking at the stars, and then directly on to a gentle float on the Rio Grande River.  Perfect!  Just a little taste of some of the best activities we have to offer.

Sample Itinerary
Day One
Meet up with your wrangler at Lajitas Stables at 9:30.  We'll organize your sleep and river gear for separate transport to camp.  We leave the stables and climb out of the Rio Grande River corridor, onto Contrabando Mesa with its breathtaking views of Mexico to the south and the Solitario and mountains of Big Bend Ranch State Park to the north. We drop down to Contrabando Waterhole for lunch; then continue north and west through the foothills.  We camp at Rios Ranch, where the property occupies a canyon with a year-round spring, which was once used to grow figs, dates, and other fresh produce to sell to the Buena Suerte miners.

Day Two
Leave your sleeping bag early to watch the spectacular sunrise over the mountain peaks to the east, before having your share of cowboy coffee and a hot breakfast.  After eating, we will rendezvous with Big Bend River Tours a short distance from camp.  You'll shuttle to the river; then step into rafts or canoes for the second part of your adventure.  You'll hit the road home relaxed and grateful for the time you've spent camping in the wilderness and exploring the Big Bend's back country!

You should certainly bring your sense of adventure for this unique trip.  On riding days, plan on 4-6 hours in the saddle; the half day float will entail 2-3 hours of paddling.  The river portion of the trip can be either in a raft or canoes, depending on the water level.

Your trip may vary from the description below due to a number of factors including (but not limited to) weather, water levels, your group or your guides.
